Madrid Tapas Bar in Claremont offers a sophisticated and relaxed environment where you can sit back, sip on your glass of red wine, nibble away at delicious tapas and listen to a live musician sing the likes of Jack Johnson on a lazy Sunday afternoon.
This Latin/European style bar’s layout and decor suits it perfectly – it has a fantastic alfresco area outside where you can sip on a hot chocolate in the Winter or drink a fresh cider in the summer whilst overlooking the buzzing Claremont Square. The tighter bar area expands into a comfortable lounge which is warmly lit by abstract lighting and surrounded by golden wallpaper, succeeding in creating a sophisticated and european ambience.
You can find quirky and unique dishes here which you may not find elsewhere in Claremont as it is one of the only places in the area that offers Spanish Tapas size share food which is the perfect start to your evening with friends, before you head out dancing at the Claremont.
Even though Madrid offers many a Spanish tapas dishes, they also have “Lighter” and “More Substantial” options on their menu for the less adventurous and maybe for those who are looking to keep a meal all to themselves! These meals are equally satisfying and each offers a variation of cuisine becoming more European and less specifically Spanish.
Some of my favourites off of the share menu would be the grilled chorizo with lemon (they definitely win best Chorizo in the area), the beef carpaccio with truffle oil (which melts in your mouth!) and the Tequila & Lime Oysters, which will give you a little kick to start your night off!
For something light, I would recommend the Baby Spinach, pear, blue cheese, walnut, apple balsamic salad – this is absolutely divine – light, full of flavour and healthy!
From the something “substantial” part of their menu, you can’t go wrong with the Wagyu Beef Burger and this will definitely fill you up if you a have a bigger appetite!
Madrid is apparently in the middle of big changes at the moment and will shortly be announcing a brand new menu along with a brand new name !
They are also intending to go into competition with the other coffee shops in the area with their soon to arrive high quality, microbiology take away coffee. Mother Pearl will be visiting soon to have a look at these changes and will keep you updated with her opinion on the “new Madrid” on the corner of St. Quentins Ave!
